Best Available Rate (BAR)

A best available rate is the most favorable rate you can get for a hotel stay, flight, or other type of travel.

What is a Best Available Rate (BAR)?

Best-available-rate (BAR) pricing is an attempt to reduce confusion for hotel guests caused by complex rate strategies with many different prices.

The best-available-rate (BAR) is the lowest rate of the day that is available for guests to book. The BAR rates are available to the general public, does not require pre-payment and does not impose cancellation or change penalties and/or fees, other than those imposed as a result of a hotel property’s normal cancellation policy.

Where can one find the best available rates?

To find the best available rate, you'll need to do a little research. First, you'll want to check out your options. Look around at what other companies are offering, and see what they're charging. Then, when you have a good idea of the ballpark range, compare it against your current rate. If there's no difference between what you're paying now and what you'd pay with another company, it's probably not worth sticking with your current provider. If there is a difference in price between what you're currently paying and what another company is offering, then do some more research on that second option before making any changes. Remember that sometimes the cheapest option isn't always the best one—and that sometimes paying more for something can actually save you money in the long run.
